To prepare for your upcoming photo day here are some suggestions to help take some of the stress away. ?
Make sure to dress comfortably, even if it a “dressy” photo session, you want to be comfortable. One thing I have found is that if someone is not comfortable in their clothing,it shows in the images. This day is showcasing you, not what you’re wearing. If you are bringing your family along you don’t need to be matchy matchy, unless you want to be. It is best to wear complimentary colors though. Prints are nice, but generally apparel with wording is distracting in a photo.
Remember, you and your loved ones will be looking back on these photos for years to come, you want the focus to be on you and your family, not “bart simpson” on your shirt. :o) Let your attire reflect who you are and what you are trying to achieve.
Are you looking for photos that reflect a country feel? If so keep it more casual and soft. Nice creamy colors work well as does soft patterned fabrics. If you are looking for more of an urban appeal to your photos, then try more edgy colors such as black, gray, or even bright fuchsias and royal purples!
Whatever you decide on, the most important thing is that you are comfortable and that your style reflects you.
Ladies, bringing a small bag of make up to freshen up between shots is nice as well as a hair brush or comb for yourself and the kiddies.
If your child is particularly fond of something at this stage of his/hers life, bring it! Let’s incorporate that into the shots so you can remember it always and it will help ease the tension for them. ?
If at any time during the session you have something you would like to try or suggest, mention it to your photographer. Bringing your own ideas into the session will even bring more of your own personal flavor to your photos. And last but not least, a smile is not always necessary, even from the kiddies. Sometimes, that natural “it’s me” expression works just as well if not better!
And of course, have fun! Enjoy this time, and if you’re with children, allowing them to be themselves without stuffy poses and sitting in front of bright lamps will allow your photographer to capture your true essence!
